When I was 15, my mom took me on a trip to Germany to visit the Exchange family she stayed with when she was in high school. She was there in late 50s, before the Wall was completed. Just a few short years after the armistice. The cold war was still very much a reality and her father had served in the South Pacific. I can't imagine what it was like as parents to let your girl go that far away after all of that. But they had faith, and trusted God. And I am so very glad they did. It gave all of us, including them, the chance to meet a couple families of people who touched our hearts.
They were also a host family, and they received Peter, whom they still visit today. But I digress, this is about our trip together, her chance to show me some of the places she saw, things she did, people she loved. I am not sure I appreciated it then, and not sure I still do fully now, but it was a life-changing event for me, even if I didn't realize it at the time.
